FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What happens during the first session?

  • Many people feel nervous before the first appointment. That is totally normal. I can assure you that I will do my best to make you feel as comfortable as you can be.
  • You will be able to begin to tell me your story at your own pace. I’ll ask a few questions about why you are here and what I can do to help you live a more peaceful and manageable life.
  • You need not worry about feeling judged or being politically correct in my office. This is your safe space to express yourself and feel comfortable doing so.

How long do appointments last?

  • Appointments are 50-55 minutes.
  • I do offer 75-minute couples or family sessions. A longer session can be useful when dealing with the complexities of couples and families.
  • Discernment Counseling is 2 hours for the first session and 1.5-2 hour follow up sessions.  Discernment counseling can consist of 1-5 sessions.

How often will we meet?

  • To begin, we will meet once a week. I find it’s important to gain some momentum in the beginning by meeting weekly or progress can stall out. Once some or all of your goals are met, meeting less often will make sense.

What is your fee?

  • $175 per individual session
  • $185 per couples session.
  • If you are opting for Discernment Counseling your initial session will be two hours long and will cost $310.  Subsequent sessions will be from 1.5-2 hours and will be $275.

I do offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments based on financial need.  I accept cash, check or credit cards.

Do you accept insurance?

  • I currently do not take insurance at this time.  However, I will gladly provide you with a superbill (an invoice showing dates and charges of services) that you may submit to a third party.
  • There are also services such as getbetter.co that assist with managing healthcare claims.
  • If you intend to seek reimbursement from your health insurance company, you are advised to contact them prior to our first session to ask them the following questions:
        • What is my deductible?
        • What is my co-payment?
        • How many sessions will be covered?
        • What percentage of my bill will be reimbursed for services provided by an out-of-network provider?

What is the cancellation policy?

  • I require 24 hours notice of cancellation.  An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency.

Can we have a phone or video session?

  • I can conduct sessions by phone or a secure video platform to help meet your needs.
